Congratulations to the Coral Reef FFA Chapter for an outstanding job at the recent National Agriscience
Fair Competitions. In the Environmental Science Division, Keivan Zolfaghari received the Silver Metal for his presentation “ What is the Effect of Density on Marigold Height?” Kamilya Richelle Miller and Ronald Attilio Porcelli received the bronze in Food Science in the Biochemistry Division for their project entitled “What is the Effect of Temperature on the Color Formation in Potatoes?”
In addition congratulations to Coral Reef’s FFA team of Nicolas Garcia, Joshua Rodriguez, Madison Haughie,
Lanie Velasquez and Ricardo Muniz which placed third in the state this past weekend out of 21 competing groups
at the 2007 State Food Science Career Development Event at the University of Florida. Special ‘kudos go to
Lainie Onelia Velasquez who placed first in the state in the individual events, Nicholas Laureano Garcia taking
2nd and Ronald Attilio Porcelli coming in at 4th. Kudos to FFA sponsors Mrs. Nyree Michelle Washington and Ms.Atisha Jackson for a job well done both at the nationals and states.
Engineering senior Ryan Domenech McDonald recently had an article published in the Pinecrest Tribune. Entitled "Kids2Kids Seeks Volunteers," McDonald writes about his many hours of community service and how it has influenced him.
At last weeks AgES Parent Booster meeting, Agriscience & Engineering Lead Teacher Larry Floyd introduced guest speakers Dr. Beth Klugerman, Mr. Steve Manasa and Mr. Manny Medina who spoke about their various careers: Dentistry, Market Claims Manager with Allstate insurance, and corrections officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, respectively. AgES past president Betsy Sharp related her daughter Katrina's excitement about being at the University of Florida and thanked Agriscience Instructor Nyree M. Washington for making Katrina aware of the many professional opportunities available to students with agriscience backgrounds.
