Important Information:

 

Any student who either attends or is eligible to attend a Miami-Dade County Public School may apply for admission to a magnet program at Coral Reef Senior. Diversity is a consideration in the selection of students for magnet programs. Deadline for the 2010-2011 applications deadline is January 15, 2010. Please check our website on October 1, 2009 for the 2010-2011 school year magnet application packet. According to School Board guidelines, limited transportation is available for many students based on transportation service zones. Grade levels served by magnet programs vary by school.

FAQ's About Magnet Programs:

 

Magnet programs/schools are schools of choice that offer unique courses of study focusing on students’ special interests, talents, and abilities. As part of the public school system, magnet programs/schools are provided at no cost to eligible students. A variety of magnet programs/schools are available to students under the following six themes of study:

Careers & Professions
Communications & Humanities
International Education
Mathematics, Science & Technology
Montessori*
Visual and Performing Arts

Application to magnet programs/schools is open to all school age children who either attend or are eligible to attend a Miami-Dade County Public School.

Why Should My Child Attend a Magnet Program/Schools?

 

Magnet programs/schools offer enhanced educational opportunities for students. The six different magnet themes provide a range of choices designed to meet a variety of student interests. The goals of magnet programs/schools are to provide an excellent educational opportunity for students and to facilitate multicultural collaboration and cooperation.

Applications for Coral Reef Senior are available for the 2010-2011 school year. Deadline for the 2010-2011 applications deadline is January 15, 2010.

How Do I Apply for Admission to a Magnet Program?

 

Generally, participation in magnet programs is based on the student’s interest in one or more of the six themes of study. A tour of the magnet program may also be arranged.

Where Do I Apply for Admission to a Magnet Program/School?

 

Applications for the 2010-2011 school year will be available online starting October 1, 2009. Please check our website.

How Are Students Selected for a Magnet Program/School?

 

Once a completed application is received, eligibility is determined by the magnet program/school based on a variety of factors. When the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of spaces available a random selection is used for student selection. Participation in visual and performing arts magnet is based on application and audition.

Is Transportation Provided to Magnet Programs?

 

According to School Board Rule, limited transportation is available for many students based on transportation service zones. The magnet lead teacher or magnet secretary can assist you in determining if your child is eligible for transportation
