Welcome to Legal & Public Affairs

Dear Parents,

On behalf of our teachers, Ms. Cushnie and Ms. Gonzalez and our counselor Ms. Martin, we would like to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. Our team has filled the year with new and exciting opportunities for our students.

The 2018-2019 school year was filled with great accomplishments; 43% of our seniors received an ALP certification; variety of FPSA awards during National competition including 3rd place for overall Criminal Justice Operations Program; several of our students were elected to Student Government. Our clubs continue to receive recognition by local agencies and represent our Academy through and through. Our Honor Guard including our flag detail continue to raise the standards. We are also proud to announce our Police Explorer’s Post. We will be working closely with MDCSP in offering our students a close up look into a vocational career.

This year we will offer a plethora of clubs to join. Our official Academy club is the Florida Public Service Association (FPSA) and our goal is to receive a 100% membership. The $10 fee will enable students to enter into competition in March and attend the leadership conference typically held in January. Each member will also receive a club shirt. FPSA reinforces the skills learned in our Criminal Justice program. Ms. Cushnie will also lead the Honor Guard. We are also excited to announce that Ms. Cushnie will be leading the Skills USA Club this year, where students will have an opportunity to compete at a national level. Students further have opportunities to participate in We the People, Mock Trials and SADD. We strongly encourage all students to participate in any of the above-mentioned clubs.

To conclude, we encourage ALL our Legal families to join the Legal Academy booster club. This year our board welcomed Ms. Lisette Lopez as our new booster President. Mr. Colon will continue his valued service in the capacity of Vice President. On our website you will find a membership form which will include you on our email list. Once you are on the email list you will receive monthly updates on academy and booster events. If you already volunteered for a position, please note that a general booster meeting is taking place on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 6:30 in room 54.

We are excited for another year and if you have any thoughts or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us. On behalf of our entire team, I wish you a healthy and successful school year.
